Bringing Old Houses Back to Life Across Three Counties
A 1750s fieldstone farmhouse and a 1965 split-level sit twenty minutes apart out here, and they want opposite things from a painter. Stone bedded in lime mortar has to keep breathing through its joints, so the wrong coating traps water instead of letting it out. A newer house with an open stairwell needs a dead-straight paint line, because you can see it from three rooms at once.
